The Café Hofburg

In the heart of the imperial residence.

Our coffee house

Imperial charm and Viennese comfort.

Café Hofburg is pleasantly situated in the quiet inner castle court and is known as an insider tip among the Viennese. It used to be the center of the Habsburg monarchy. Today, you have a view over the official rooms of the Austrian Federal President from the Schanigarten.

The bronze monument of Emperor Franz I majestically greets guests from the centre of the square. Sisi and Franz Joseph I used to live above our typical Viennese coffee house. We cordially invite you to take a seat on our comfortable upholstered furniture, under the crystal chandeliers, and enjoy a Wiener Melange and our heavenly Kaiserschmarrn.

The Viennese coffee house culture moved into the Hofburg in 2004, when we, the Querfeld family, opened our Café Hofburg. From our famous original coffee house, Café Landtmann on the Ring Road, we have brought our coffee specialties and irresistible cakes and pastries from Landtmann's fine patisserie. Here you can find courteous waiting staff with Viennese charm, as well as the colours red and gold, with which we underline our love for the Hofburg.

Historical stories from the Imperial Palace

Why our coffee house is so unique.

The Habsburgs have designed the Hofburg over centuries and made it a center of European politics. Empress Sisi and Emperor Franz Joseph I, who have lived above us, are among the most famous representatives of the family.
